Judge Robert Rinder steps out from behind the bench to examine real-life cases. From bigamy and fraud to armed robbery and even murder, he presents the background to the crime, the details of the police investigation and finally the trial, giving his own expert summary of the case. In September 1974, 17-year-old Stephen Downing discovered the naked body of Wendy Sewell in Bakewell Cemetery. She had been badly beaten but was still alive. Stephen was taken in for questioning, but when Wendy died he was charged with murder. Journalist Don Hale campaigned for Stephen and he was eventually released on appeal after 27 years in prison, making this case the longest miscarriage of justice in Britain.
